ABOUT LARRY
Larry Vincent was born in
Merida, Venezuela, where he began studying
music at age 10. He enrolled in the University of the Andes School of
Music at age 15, where he studied music theory and classical guitar.
He
enrolled at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1987, where
he studied under guitarist Mark Boling, saxophonist Jerry Coker and
pianist Donald Brown. He received a Bachelor of Music degree before
returning to South America where he performed extensively throughout
the continent. He was awarded a Master of Music degree from The
University of Tennessee - Knoxville in 1997.
As an
author, Larry co-wrote the book "Hearin'
The Changes",
along with Jerry Coker and Bob Knapp, published by Advance Music
(Germany). In 2005, "Hearin' The Changes" was
translated into Japanese
Mr.
Vincent is an adjunct professor at The University of Tennessee and
also teaches Music Theory, Music Appreciation and guitar at Pellissippi
State Technical Community College, and Roane State Community College.
In
December 2002, Jazz South Radio, a radio program produced by the
Southern Arts Federation (with world wide distribution), selected Larry
for one of their programs, which included an in-depth interview along
with two cuts form the CD.
In 2004 he had an article titled "Playing The
Changes" published in Mel Bay's "Teaching Guitar Newsletter",
which featured a profile of the jazz department of The University of
Tennessee's school of music.
Released
in the summer of 2004, A Look Inside is
Larry's second CD as a soloists and features a number
of original compositions, as well as some great music from Donald
Brown, Antonio Lauro and Leo Blanco.
Released In 2000, "In
Exile",
features five
original compositions as well as arrangements of popular
standards. Personel includes pianist Donald Brown and Bassist Rusty
Holloway.
